About the Artist
In my personal work I draw inspiration from everyday encounters. Ongoing themes are journeys, water, the coast, rock pools, woodland views, and landscapes, interiors, clothes, carnival and theatrical events. I paint in oils on canvas, gouache on paper, acrylic on paper and canvas, and editions of collagraphs combined with lithography. Observed sketches inform all of my work, these are then adapted by imagination, accidental events and marks, and the occasional photograph. I work using a wide range of different media to reflect the mood, and character, of the subjects I explore.
I am a member of Leicester Print Workshop and part time teacher. As an artist and educator I have 40 years of teaching experience in drawing, printmaking, and painting. I recently have had the pleasure of working in the community for the Lady Bay Art festival in Nottingham running printmaking workshops for children. I also work part-time for the WEA, and have experience of teaching for a number of educational institutions at level 3, HND, and degree level. Teaching has offered me the opportunity to be inspired and to inspire. My own artwork is a search into the unknown and involves taking risks, changing, and reworking an idea or image in order to find a new direction. This approach towards my own personal development as an artist complements my practice as an art educator.
